Dive into the gritty, steam-powered world of Mechanical Dreams, the first novel in the Mechanical Horizon series by Sagaverse Studios. Written by the talented Nedka Rōkōnōkōva, this steampunk epic follows sisters Vrekka and Liah of Clan Copperhead as they escape a devastated village, hunted by ruthless green-skinned elves. Armed with the Firebrand—a hulking war machine numbered 122—they turn vengeance into a weapon, igniting a battle that sets the stage for an explosive graphic novel continuation. Released on June 28, 2025, this tale blends heart-pounding action with cultural depth, making it a must-read for fans of sci-fi, fantasy, and graphic novels.

Story Highlights
  • Unique Steampunk Fusion: Mechanical Dreams merges Victorian-era technology with a futuristic war-torn landscape, featuring steam-powered ironclads and the iconic Firebrand tank. The clash of nature (rivers, canyons, vultures) and machine sets it apart from traditional steampunk narratives.
  • Cultural Resonance: Drawing from Nedka’s Dakota Sioux heritage, the story weaves oral storytelling traditions into the sisters’ journey, offering a rich, emotional core rarely seen in the genre.
  • Sisterhood and Vengeance: The unbreakable bond between Vrekka and Liah, forged through loss and combat, drives a personal revenge arc against the sinister Major Buwel, delivering a raw, relatable human element.
  • Cinematic Action: From river escapes to tank battles, the novel’s vivid combat scenes are crafted with Nedka’s RPG background (Curse of the Chupacabra), promising a seamless transition to the Mechanical Horizon graphic novel series.
  • Interconnected Universe: As a Sagaverse Studios production, Mechanical Dreams ties into a broader narrative, appealing to fans of their novels, comics, and RPGs with hints of a larger world beyond the page.

This tale was well woven with heart and action that satisfied me as a reader. The sisters Copperhead were memorable protagonists with a clear purpose to their actions. The antagonists were clearly defined and portrayed, something I feel that most modern writing forgets, a "bad" guy can be bad. Nedka was able to do this by giving the sisters Copperhead an abundance of pathos and the feeling of a real familial bond. I highly recommend this book to all those who enjoy good story telling and a bit of a steampunk feel.
